    The Multidisciplinary Financial, Administrative, and Student Unit (MDU) provides service in the areas of financial, business, and student affairs. We support the teaching and research of the Department of Ethnic Studies, Department of Gender & Sexuality Studies, Department of Media and Cultural Studies, Department of Religious Studies, all Interdisciplinary Programs, California Center for Native Nations (CCNN), Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research (CBSR), and The Young Oak Kim Center for Korean American Studies (YOK). Academic personnel include ladder rank faculty, lecturers, Visiting Professors, Researchers, Associate-Ins, Readers, and Teaching Assistants. The departments offer both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. While providing exceptional customer service to faculty, students, and the UCR community, we strive to maintain a high level of professionalism, expertise, and ethics, while adhering to University policies and procedures.

    Responsible for financial analysis, reporting, budget mangement, ledger reconciliation, transactional support (CCNN), payroll and personnel duties. Performas assignments on a project basis, gathers data and information, and resolves problems by recommending solutions. Serves as advisor to FAO, Program Chairs and/or Center Directors. Completes documents for signature by appropriate institutional officials, maintains fiscal integrity of funds to ensure they are in reportable condition, and independently handles year-end close process for assigned funds.

Arranges room scheduling, set-up, media resources, catering, parking, and other event needs. Responsible for equipment inventory, space management, copier maintenance, and serve as key custodian and Safety Coordinator. Transact purchasing, travel vouchers, check requests, honorariums, reimbursements, deposits, and other payments. Audit transactions for required receipts, proper approval, appropriateness, funding source, and mathematical accuracy.  Research discrepancies and handle returns. Assist in office coverage, answering phones, distributing mail, and maintaining bulletin boards.

    Administers the recruitment and hiring process for ladder and non-senate faculty. Ensure compliance with the Academic Personnel Manual and the Memorandum of Understanding contracts. Provides support to departments for a variety of personnel actions, including document preparation for assessments, excellence reviews, merit/promotion reviews, and instructional workload course equivalency requests. Coordinates payroll and leaves with Harvest and UCPath. Collects, analyzes, and updates payroll data on a regular basis, making adjustments as necessary.

Obtain classrooms for courses taking into account student enrollment, requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office, past enrollment trends, instructor preferences, and equipment. Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on enrollment trends. Prepares and submits program changes and course approval forms to the Committee on Courses of the Academic Senate when the department proposes additions, changes, or withdrawals of courses via CRAMS.

    Walk-Ins:
    Our walk-in hours are designated for student visits expected to last no more than 10 minutes. Walk-ins DO NOT need to make appointments—students check in at the advising lobby of INTS 3111.

    Appointments:
    A 30 minute advising session to discuss items such as; degree check, major change, transferring coursework, lengthy petitions, schedule planning for upcoming quarters, etc.
